Pre-Flop Raise
Share of hands where your first voluntary preflop action is a raise. Shows aggression when you choose to play. In tournaments, a healthy PFR is usually close to but below VPIP.
VPIP minus PFR
How much of your VPIP comes from calling or limping instead of raising. A large gap (for example 15+ points) often means too much passive preflop entry: open-limps and calls versus raises.
Open limp
Calling the big blind when you are first to enter the pot (not completing the small blind). Usually weaker than raise-or-fold because you give up initiative and invite multiway pots.
Call versus a raise
Times you called after someone else already raised preflop. Useful for spotting passive preflop habits and spots where fold or 3-bet might be better.
Big blind
The larger forced blind posted before cards are dealt. Also used as a unit: “12 BB” means twelve times the current big blind. Short stacks are often measured in BB.
Small blind
The smaller forced blind, posted by the seat left of the button. Completing the SB (calling when everyone folded to you) is different from an open limp.
Button
Best seat: you act last on every postflop street. Steals and value bets are easier here because you see others act first.
Out of position / In position
OOP acts before your opponent on later streets; IP acts after. In-position play is easier because you get more information before deciding.
Stack-to-Pot Ratio
Effective stack divided by pot size on a street. Low SPR (around 1 or less) means stacks are committed relative to the pot—simplify to value, protection, or fold.
Effective stack
The smaller of yours and your opponent’s remaining chips. Decisions depend on effective stack, not table maximum.
Three-bet
The third bet preflop: open raise, then re-raise. Used for value with strong hands and sometimes as a bluff with blockers. Ranges and stack depth matter a lot.
Four-bet
Re-raise after a 3-bet. Often polarized (very strong hands or bluffs) at typical tournament depths.
Cold call
Calling a raise when you have not yet put money in the pot this hand (except blinds). Cold-calling a 3-bet is often dominated or awkward out of position.
Raise or fold
Default when first into the pot: either raise with a playable range or fold. Reduces limp-heavy, capped ranges that are hard to play postflop.
Bluff-catch
Calling on the river mainly to beat bluffs, not for value against worse made hands. Ask which missed draws can bluff and what bluff frequency you need.
Showdown value
A hand strong enough to win sometimes at showdown but not strong enough to bet for value. Often checks or calls rather than betting or raising.
Pot odds
Price to call compared to total pot if you call. If you need 25% equity to break even, roughly one in four similar spots should be profitable.
Heads-up
Only two players in the hand. The Kyqon solver pipeline only labels heads-up postflop spots; multiway pots use rules-based review instead.
Independent Chip Model
How chip stack changes map to money equity with payouts and field left. Pushes, calls, and folds near the bubble or final table can differ from chip-EV.
Chip expected value
Decisions judged by chip gain/loss only, ignoring payout jumps. TexasSolver outputs on this site are chip-EV, not ICM-adjusted.
Expected value
Average outcome over many similar situations. +EV means profitable long term; one hand result does not prove the decision was wrong or right.
Solver-eligible spot
A heads-up postflop node sent to TexasSolver locally. Shows mixed frequencies (check/bet/raise) under assumed ranges and bet sizes—not live-table advice.
Deterministic review
Preflop and multiway decisions flagged by fixed rules in the pipeline, not by the solver. Useful for patterns; not full range analysis.
Game theory optimal
Strategy that cannot be exploited in theory. Solvers approximate GTO for simplified trees. Real play mixes exploits, simplification, and human limits.
Educational reference only. Tournament context, opponent types, and payout structure can change the best play. Solver lines assume specific ranges and bet trees.
